Me gustaría hablarle de mí. Nací en España y crecí hablando español. Vine a los Estados Unidos hace más de 30 años sin hablar inglés. Al venir sola a este país entiendo las tremendas dificultades que uno enfrenta al vivir en una nueva comunidad. Aprendí a crear mi propia cultura y creo que encontré mi hogar.

Desde el 2013 soy parte de la familia Brigham. Desde que empecé a trabajar con el departamento de Intérpretes Médicos, acumulé mucha experiencia trabajado por todo el hospital, en las unidades médicas para pacientes hospitalizados. En la unidad de emergencia, cirugía, psiquiatría y otras muchas. También soy miembro y participo en el Comité de Ética de Brigham. Son esas experiencias las que me motivaron a buscar acreditación como trabajador de salud comunitaria (CHW) y lo completé en Cambridge Health Alliance en el 2021. Esto me permitió poner en práctica, mis habilidades para ir más allá de la interpretación y contribuir de una manera más amplia e integral. Continúo mi misión a través de NESTS (sobrevivientes de un trauma que no hablan Inglés), para aprender más sobre cómo servir a nuestra comunidad multicultural. Estoy muy agradecida por la oportunidad de contribuir a la salud y el bienestar de las personas desamparadas en la comunidad.

Let me tell you about myself. I was born in Spain and grew up speaking Spanish as my first language. I came to the United States over 30 years ago speaking no English. Coming to this country alone I understand the tremendous difficulties one faces living in a new community. I learned to make my own culture and the new ones I encountered my home.

I have been part of the Brigham family since 2013 when I began working with the Medical Interpreter Services. I accrued a wealth of experience having worked throughout the hospital in the medical inpatient units, emergency unit, surgery, psychiatry, and many others. I am also a participating member of the Ethics Committee at Brigham. It’s those experiences that motivated me to seek training as a Community Health Worker, and I completed training at Cambridge Health Alliance in 2021. This training now allows me to utilize my skills to go beyond interpretation and contribute in a more extensive and comprehensive way. I continue my mission through NESTS to learn more about how to serve our diverse community. I am grateful for the opportunity to contribute to the health and well-being of our community and its underserved people.
