GENERAL SUMMARY:

CSPH is seeking a Senior Research Assistant to support a multi-year study funded by the National Institute for Minority Health and Health Disparities. The grant has three primary aims: 1) to document best practices for equitable planning of trauma care services within state trauma systems, 2) to identify modifiable trauma system characteristics associated with injury disparities and decompose the structural pathways causing injury disparities, and 3) Identify and prioritize consensus-based strategies to mitigate injury disparities through trauma system planning and resource allocation. This study will identify opportunities to achieve equity in trauma care at the system-level. These results will lay the groundwork for future trials evaluating the effectiveness and costs of disparities mitigation interventions for trauma care.

Working very independently with little guidance from the Project Manager and/or Principal Investigator, the Senior Research Assistant, coordinates all activities of research area including but not limited to: supervising the daily activities of research assistants, implementing and maintaining quality assurance procedures, performing statistical or qualitative analyses, and designing research protocols with Principal Investigator.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Preparation of interview guides, questionnaire, and data collection tool with input from co-investigators.
  • Coordination of case study site visits (i.e., recruitment, scheduling, arranging local transportation).
  • Scheduling and conducting phone interviews using a structured questionnaire.
  • May coordinate all (or portion) of research study activities. Function as a resource for all study issues.
  • Identifies problems and develops solutions.
  • Designs, implements, and evaluates recruitment strategies for study participants.
  • Interact with patients/subjects with regard to study, including patient education, procedural instruction, follow-up.
  • Responsible for overseeing the data collection process. Ensures integrity of patient data.
  • Implements and maintains quality assurance procedures and systems.
  • Plans, designs, and performs statistical analyses.
  • In collaboration with PI, develops and implements new research protocols including design, data collection systems, and institutional review board approval (IRB).
  • In collaboration with PI, prepares and may present certain portions of presentations, in addition to preparing articles for publication.
  • Assistance with manuscript formatting and submission (potentially assistance with writing, opportunities for authorship)
  • Coding/analyzing qualitative data
  • Managing IRB modifications
  • Administrative coordination of research meetings (including taking notes/minutes)
  • Directly supervises the activities of Research Assistants, including hiring, firing, performance evaluation and discipline of staff.
  • In collaboration with Project Coordinator and or PI, develops, implements and/or maintains an orientation and training program for all staff.
  • May be responsible to monitor grant budget, in collaboration with PI or Project Coordinator.
  • All other duties, as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

BS or BA required. MPH, MS preferred.

3-5 years of directly related, progressively more responsible, experience.

Supervisory experience preferred

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsible for directly supervising Research Assistants in area. Trains and orients staff, in addition

to hiring, firing, evaluating, and disciplining. Coordinates staffing and schedule.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

The role will require occasional light lifting (less than 20 lbs). It will require hybrid work, although in-office time and recruitment within the hospital is required. The role will require some travel – ten case study site visits in the US over two years, each requiring 3-5 days away.
