Stanley W. Ashley, MD
Dr. Stanley W. Ashley serves as Frank Sawyer Professor of Surgery at Harvard Medical School and senior vice president for medical affairs at BWH.
Named one of Boston’s best doctors by Boston Magazine, Dr. Ashley is a graduate of Oberlin College and Cornell University Medical College. He completed a residency in general surgery at Washington University in St. Louis. He then spent seven years at the University of California at Los Angeles, before coming to BWH in 1997. Dr. Ashley is board certified in surgery.
Both the Department of Veterans Affairs and the National Institutes of Health have funded Dr. Ashley’s research, which examines the pathophysiology of the small bowel and pancreas.
His clinical interests include biliary tract disease, cancer surgery, colon, disease and surgery, Crohn’s disease, diverticular disease, esophageal, disease and surgery, gallstone disease, gastric cancer, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), gastrointestinal disease and surgery, general surgery, hernia repair, inflammatory bowel disease, laparoscopic surgery, liver disease and surgery, minimally invasive surgery, pancreatic disease and surgery, rectal surgery, sphincter, sparing surgery, splenectomy, supraesophageal reflux disease, ulcerative colitis.
