JOB TITLE: Research Assistant I (Full-time) JOB CODE: 00920R

The Center for Surgery and Public Health (CSPH) has been at the forefront of public health research of surgical care delivery within and throughout our nation’s healthcare system. Utilizing innovative research methodologies grounded in clinical reality, we have developed surgical safety checklists, created a national agenda for surgical disparities research, and launched the pioneering work of rising stars in surgical health services research. We are advancing the science of surgical care delivery by studying effectiveness, quality, equity, and value at the population level and training the most gifted of a new generation of physician-scientists. Together, our efforts are making surgery safer, more patient-centered, and more accessible in the U.S. and around the world.

 

GENERAL SUMMARY:

The RA will primarily work in support of the CSPH Data Core, which provides data management statistical analysis services for CSPH investigators and other faculty in the Department of Surgery. Working closely with the Data Core project manager and lead faculty, the RA will be responsible for administrative tasks necessary to ensure timely and efficient access to data and analytic resources for CSPH investigators, including: transfers of data files between secure storage environments, extraction of compressed data files, and organization of project folders in the CSPH research computing environment. The RA may be asked to complete other tasks in support of the Data Core and other CSPH research programs, as appropriate to their level of experience.

 

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides assistance on research studies as per study guidelines and protocols.
  • Organizes and documents research data resources available to CSPH investigators.
  • Communicates Data Core updates and announcements to broader CSPH community, including planned server shutdowns, data resource availability, and educational programing.
  • Assists with acquisition of secondary datasets, maintaining confidentiality and adherence to data use agreements. May be required to input data, conduct basic analyses and run various reports.
  • Monitors and sets up any needed equipment in the office.
  • Maintains regulatory documents and IRB as needed.
  • All other duties, as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

BS OR BA

New graduate with relevant course or project work

 

SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills are required for working with the Data Core team and CSPH investigators.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of clinical research protocols.
  • Knowledge of computer programs, databases, etc.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize a variety of tasks.
  • Careful attention to detail.
  • Ability to demonstrate professionalism and respect for subjects rights and individual needs.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

None

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Will be based in an MGB facility and will directly interact with the project team members. Will also have opportunities to engage in work-related travel, and to attend research meetings, webinars and sessions, as appropriate.
