Elizabeth Yates, MD, is a General Surgery resident at Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH), now completing two years of protected research time at CSPH.  Her work is interdisciplinary research examining the interface between surgery, sustainability and climate change.  She draw son clinical outcomes methods, GIS mapping, QI methodology and behavioral economics to start to unpack the role of surgeons in the broader climate crisis, and its reciprocal impact on surgical patients.  To support this interest, she is pursuing an MPH in Occupational and Environmental Health. A local from Concord, MA, Dr. Yates completed her Doctorate of Medicine from the University of Michigan Medical School, and received her Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology, Legal Studies from Northwestern University.  She has been elected to the House Staff Council, and is the recipient of the Looking to the Future Award from the Society of Thoracic Surgeons in 2019. She presented “Climate change, Sustainability and Surgery” at the Gill Trauma Symposium.
