Vanessa Welten, MD, is a General Surgery resident at Brigham and Women’s Hospital.  Dr. Welten completed her undergraduate education at Brown University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology while also playing Division I NCAA ice hockey on the Brown University Women’s Ice Hockey team. She subsequently attended Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine to complete her medical education, while also obtaining a concurrent Master of Public Health degree (MPH). Her clinical and research interests are mainly in surgical oncology and colorectal surgery. During her first two years as a surgical resident, she worked with the colorectal surgery research group at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, under the primary mentorship of Dr. Nelya Melnitchouk, with whom she will continue to work with during her time at the CSPH.
