Mentor: Douglas Smink, MD
Rachel Atkinson, MD is a general surgery resident at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. She was born and raised in the suburbs of Atlanta, and completed her undergraduate and medical school education at Amherst College and the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth, respectively. Her primary project at CSPH is the Provider Awareness and Cultural dexterity Training for Surgeons (PACTS) trial, which hopes to mitigate disparities in healthcare through a novel surgical education curriculum. Rachel’s primary research interests lie in education, both at the medical student and resident levels, and she ultimately hopes to serve as a surgical residency program director. When not working, she and her husband Ben enjoy exploring local restaurants, watching movies, and miserably rooting for the New York Giants while living in Patriots territory.
