JAMA Surgery and the Surgical Outcomes Club partnered to create a series of practical guides to utilizing 11 of the most used national surgical databases. Adil Haider, MD, MPH contributed the opening editorial, outlining the proper method for approaching surgical database research and the need to elevate the science of surgical database research and to expand the circle of researchers publishing. Published in the April 4th Issue, the series includes a surgical database checklist for choosing and evaluating surgical databases, tips for analyzing large surgical data sets, as well as methodological guides to TRICARENTDBNSQIP/Pediatric NSQIPMedicare ClaimsNCDBMBSAQIPSVS VQISEERVASQIPNIS, and STS.
