Consensus-based guidelines for ethical oversight of patient-centered outcomes research

On September 25th, Annals of Internal Medicine published a set of ethical guidelines for patient-centered outcomes research, representing the culmination of a 3-year study by a CSPH team of researchers led by Joel Weissman, PhD, in collaboration with the Petrie-Flom Center for Health Law Policy, Biotechnology, and Bioethics at Harvard Law School. Funded by PCORI, this research aims to provide guidance for researchers and institutional review board members alike on managing the ethical challenges posed by engaging patients in roles other than research subject.
